We are pioneering new partnerships with mountain communities in sustainable climbing development.
Join us in changing the face of climbing development worldwide.
The Historic Problem With Climbing
Traditionally, climbing in its many forms has been primarily the domain of the privileged. These climbers have used their privilege to push into lands occupied by other people, showing little regard for the impact that they had on the indigenous communities living there. This was and is wrong. Climbing can empower local communities instead of marginalizing them. Join us in making this change today.
Make a Difference
Rural communities in mountainous regions are often some of the poorest and most underserved on the planet. Metrics in health and education are amongst the lowest recorded in their respective countries. Indigenous cultures and languages are left to wither with little government support. But you can change this.
In areas with outdoor tourism potential, we can partner with these communities. We can give them back the agency that previous generations stole from them. We can show them the respect that they have long been denied and help them to drive culturally sensitive development which preserves their culture, provides the resources to nourish and educate their children, and at the same time provides access for the climbing communities that dream of exploring new lands. This is the mission of the Sustainable Ascents Foundation.
